The European dream

The European dream

The hand is care. The hand is work. The hand is grasping. The mirage of Europe is a crossing of two hands. To the south, in place of the roots, a drier hand, almost etched with wounds, is transforming upwards into a flourishing, colorful, well-cared-for hand. Their union generates a tree. With its roots in the earth and its crown in the sky, the tree symbolizes life regenerating itself, thanks to the energy circulating between these two elements. Above all, Europe is a dream of life flourishing again. From the dead season, from the dry earth, from feet planted to the ground and to the material necessities of living, the migrants soar upwards, bridge and sap, pulsating with desire, stretching towards the infinite. On the branches, the symbols of paradise abound: birds that have found soft nests in small hands in which to take refuge and golden apples from Hesperides/zecchini/euros, a dream of easy wealth towards which it is enough to stretch out one’s hand. But, as it happened in Eden, also for migrants, eating the fruit of the tree of knowledge will mean losing that paradise that was only illusion and hope.
